A vegan food is one that doesn’t contain any ingredients derived from animals or use animal products in its preparation. So, to put it simply, vegan oatmeal cookies don’t contain any animal products (nor will you use any animal products when preparing them).
For some, that might come as a bit of surprise because they thought regular oatmeal cookies were already vegan (they’re not).

Easy Vegan Oatmeal Cookies Recipe
- 3 cups of raw, uncooked oats (we recommend rolled oats)
- 2 cups of white flour
- 2 cups of brown sugar
- ⅓ cup of soy milk
- 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract
- ¾ cup of vegan butter
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 ½ teaspoons cinnamon
- Remove butter from the refrigerator and allow it to warm to room temperature
- Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit
- When butter is at room temperature, whip it together with the brown sugar in a mixer for two minutes to introduce air into the butter and give your vegan oatmeal cookies a bit more structure
- Measure in the soy milk and vanilla and mix on low until combined
- Add flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon and mix on low until all ingredients are combined
- Add the oats one cup at a time, mixing well between each
- Spoon 1 tablespoon of dough onto an oiled baking sheet (more vegan butter or coconut oil works best)
- Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 11 minutes
- The cookies will still look a little doughy in the middle after 11 minutes, but that’s OK
- Take the cookies out of the oven and allow them to cool on the baking sheet for about 5 minutes before moving them to another surface to cool completely
That’s all there is to it! Super easy, super delicious. Store your cookies in an airtight container or freeze for up to three months.
Tips For The Best Vegan Oatmeal Cookies
Here are some tips to help you bake the best vegan oatmeal cookies possible.
- If you have an Airbake or other heavy cookie sheet, use it. The extra material between the heat and the dough will prevent the oatmeal cookies from burning at the edges and on the bottom.
- Don’t overdo the extras (discussed below). If you add more than a ½ cup of one or two choices, the dough won’t hold together.
- As we mentioned in the baking instructions, the cookies will most likely look doughy in the center after the recommended baking time. Take them out of the oven anyway. They will firm up and become chewy as they cool.
- If you want crispier cookies, leave them in the oven for more than the recommended 11 minutes.
- Don’t neglect to grease your baking sheet before scooping out the dough. Greasing will prevent the cookies from sticking to the pan. We suggest vegan butter or coconut oil, but you can also use olive oil or cooking spray in a pinch (these may imbue a bit of flavor to the finished cookies).
Substitutions For Vegan And Gluten-Free Ingredients
